Modern Music

Pretending to paint the Bugun Liocichla

I recently finished my biggest watercolor painting so far.
I started this one about a year ago and worked on it in between projects.
It must have taken me about 30 full days to work on it.
The core idea was to set some music related trash in a canopy with a concerto of birds.
You can see the music devices I personally have used, a cassette player, CD player, MP3 player and currently my smartphone. Also a few headphones here and there.
Sadly, this is not all of the devices I have used, but I thought they were representative of the electronic junk we create throughout a life time.

At some point, I also decided to focus on endangered species:
- star magnolia (upper right)
- the butterfly Scarce tortoise shell in its three states (caterpillar, chrysalide and butterfly - upper right)
- yellow-breasted bunting (bird in dark indigo and yellow on the right)
- the bird “Bugun Liocichla” from India (bottom left)
- Hawaiian tree cotton (Kokia Drynarioides) (the big orange flower in the center - it’s actually more leaning towards scarlet red in real life)
- the Hawaiian bird Akohekohe. (black and orange on the bottom right)
- and the lesser spotted fritillaries (a butterfly - also in its three states : caterpillar, chrysalide and butterfly - bottom)

Technically speaking, I drew with graphite, then ink and then added watercolor and sometimes colored pencils.
If you wish to see me actually work on this piece, I made a video of the process that you can view on my YouTube channel.

Lastly, I also got it professionally scanned (because you see, it’s quite huge) and you can get a print on my Redbubble shop if you’d like. Stickers and jigsaw puzzle are an option too if you so fancy.

Get a print, make an artist happy XD

Finally, this piece will actually be shown to the public, which means I’ll have to sell a liver to get it framed… (only partially kidding, glass frames are super expensive, especially at that size)
It’s going to be shown close to us. (so at least we can bring it ourselves and not worry about shipping it!)

2022 - April - “Art Urbain”, Comoedia, Brest, France

In case this one doesn’t sell through the gallery, I will put it on my webshop but without the frame, so shipping is cheaper and safer. (shipping glass is generally a terrible idea)

Thank you for reading and have a lovely day :)
