Lightfastness - Colored Pencils

Colored Pencils Lightfastness Tests

Hello Everyone!

A bit of a different one today, but I have been testing the lightfastness of colored pencils, some for 2 years, some for 1 year, here the results.
You can also see and listen to me on a YouTube video I did of those.

I can highly recommend and mostly use
Caran d’Ache Luminance
Van Gogh Colour from Royal Talens are very lightfast too

If I had to recommend one brand, I would go with Luminance from Caran D’ache, it’s the ones I prefer using in terms of drawing comfort and they are the most lightfast.
Close second are the Van Gogh, especially at that price point, I certainly should get them out more often.
Prismacolors can be good IF you check their ASTM rating, which is spot on.
The set of Polychromos I tested was disappointing to say the least, but it’s also 20 years old, they might have gotten better in terms of lightfastness. I did test a few new ones from them and they all faded, so it’s not a brand I would ever recommend if lightfastness is important to you.
That being said, they are super nice to use, so if you only do sketchbook art or scan you artwork, why not. I use mine for doodles and sketchbooks and enjoy them a lot.

Below pictures of the colored pencils tests.
